Description
The Support Bench is part of Dr Lilli Nielsen’s Active Learning approach and range of specialised equipment. This item of equipment is largely used in therapy situations for children with visual impairment, low vision, sensory processing issues and children who are developmentally challenged. The Support Bench is designed to assist children to play in a prone (face down) position. The Support Bench can also aid in helping your child with learning the movements of crawling.
The Support Bench has been designed to facilitate the development of fine and gross motor skills, including upper body strength and head control. The bench can be adjusted for crawler support, so your child’s knees and hands are on the floor, encouraging independent movement. Whilst your child is actively at play using the support bench they are further strengthening their muscles and coordination required for sitting, crawling and reaching.
A key benefit of using a Support Bench is to encourage and assist a child in bringing their hands and objects to the midline for play, something difficult for children with weakness or impairment on one side.
On the Support Bench your child can kick against an Essef Board to develop leg strength, or they can play with objects placed on a Resonance Board to develop upper body strength.
Adjustability
The Support Bench is height adjustable by tightening/loosening the hand wheels. The bench is fitted with lockable castors for easy movement and use in therapy. The Bench can be easily disassembled for storage and transport. The padded vinyl support measures 400mm wide x 210mm deep and adjusts from a low height of 210mm up to 550mm.
Finish and Colour Choice
The Support Bench has a welded and powdercoated steel frame and a vinyl covered foam bench for maximum user comfort. As colour choice is often important for children with visual impairment, we can make your Support bench in any of our standard colour combinations shown below.
