Description
Mobility: Scooter boards are great for mobility when they have been assessed as safe and appropriate for a child. A child can use a scooter board for mobility in two main ways:
- Lying on their stomach and using their hands to move themselves around, with their legs and feet off the ground.
- Sitting on the scooter board and using their feet to shuffle around (used less than option 1)
What is great about this is that it provides a child with the opportunity to feel independent movement when they might not have a chance to otherwise. Children/people learn a lot from independent movement as it is what gives us experience and opportunity to explore our environments and therefore learn key developmental skills about touch, exploration and movement itself. This is invaluable to children who cannot mobilize by themselves.
